South Island Tennis Association organizes a doubles league each spring, from mid April until late June, called the South Island Tennis League (SITL). In 2009, there were 48 teams, split pretty evenly between men’s and women’s teams, with about eight players per team. We play on Greater Victoria public courts every Tuesday at 6:00 pm until dark.
The entry fee is $125 per team and everything is organized for you – home courts (your choice), schedules and a website where you enter your scores. We try to include all levels of players. Novice teams play for free, and we can even supply mentors to help you out with scoring, and maybe some league rules and etiquette – whatever you need. Our main goal is to increase participation and to have fun playing tennis.
If you have any questions about the league or want to send suggestions, email us at sitlinfo@yahoo.ca.
If you are interested in joining a team, send us your contact information and rating for your level of play. See the self-rating guide if you don’t know your level of play.
To see current league scores, including individual and team results, go to www.tennisbcleagues.com. Schedules, team rosters and rules are also available.
This spring there are 41 teams, split pretty evenly between men’s and women’s, with about eight players per team. There are three men’s divisions – 4.0, 4.5 and Open; and four women’s divisions – 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5.
Some city courts will be resurfaced this spring without any warning. If you see construction or nets down at any courts, please send us an email right away at sitlinfo@yahoo.ca.
There will be an all-day fun League Finale/Festival at Henderson Park on July 17.
