February 2012

Dear SITA Members,

Happy New Year! We hope that all of you are enjoying this brisk winter season and haven't forgotten to play a few matches at your local rec centre. Some of us (I proudly include myself) even have chosen a few clear days to continue playing outdoors. Whatever your preference, we hope that eveyone has continued to play tennis and is gearing up for the great year that lies ahead!

SITA recently held a raffle for a Davis Cup gift package which included several tickets and accomodation for one night during the Davis Cup weekend. Many tickets were sold, and we are happy to announce that Lou Crawford was the lucky winner! 2012 South Island Tennis League

It's time to start organizing your doubles league team. Entries open Feb. 19 and close Mar. 30. League play will start a week later this year than in 2011. We play every Tuesday at 6:00 pm from Apr 24 to Jun 26, though not all teams play the first week. Once again this year, Miele and TennisBC will sponsor province-wide league playoffs in the summer.
Pick up your entry form at rec centres and tennis shops, or download it from our web page at http://www.sitatennis.ca/leagues.shtml. The entry form contains everything you need to know, from the format of play and team composition to league rules. We've also posted some Frequently Asked Questions on the web.
To see 2011 results and team rosters (including some great team names!), go to www.tennisbcleagues.com and select the 2011 SITL tab.

Clay Court Proposal and Survey

Recently, a survey was sent out to the tennis community regarding interest in building a brand new eight clay court facility at Cedar Hill Rec Centre. The results of the survey have come back and they are very positive. To see the survey and its results, check out the link below:
http://islandtennis.net/tournaments/view/cedar-hill-clay-court-proposal

SITA fully supports this proposal and has offered assistance to the clay court committee. We hope that this excellent proposal will develop quickly and offer Victoria a fantastic opportunity to improve the growth of tennis on the lower island.
